Why Some St. Petersburg Residents Make the Drive North
St. Petersburg has well-established Orthodox parishes within the city, and most St. Pete Orthodox families belong to one of them. For those who do come north to us, the reasons are consistent.
Ukrainian Orthodox tradition. St. Petersburg has a growing Ukrainian-American community, including families who have arrived since 2022 through Uniting for Ukraine sponsorship and others who have settled in the Old Northeast, Kenwood, and the neighborhoods around 4th Street North. Our parish is the Ukrainian Orthodox parish on the western side of the bay, serving the Ukrainian liturgical tradition, hymns, and calendar that Ukrainian families want to hand on to their children.
Bilingual Divine Liturgy. Every Sunday Liturgy is celebrated in both Ukrainian and English. Older parishioners pray in their first language; children, grandchildren, and English-speaking spouses follow comfortably alongside.
A welcoming pathway for inquirers. Some St. Petersburg residents have no connection to Ukraine at all. They are seekers drawn to Orthodox Christianity through reading, friendships, or a quiet sense that something is missing from their current church home. If that is you, Fr. Stephen Siniari will sit with you and answer your questions. Inquirers are welcome at any Sunday Divine Liturgy. Come and see.

Other Orthodox Parishes in St. Petersburg
We want you to know what is closer to home before you commit to a Sunday drive north. St. Petersburg has more Orthodox parishes within its city limits than any other city in Tampa Bay.
- St. Stefanos Greek Orthodox Cathedral, St. Petersburg. The cathedral parish of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Atlanta in the Tampa Bay area, with an established community and the annual Greek Festival. Substantially English.
- St. Andrew Russian Orthodox Cathedral, St. Petersburg. Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR) tradition. Beautiful Slavic chant and a fully traditional Russian liturgical life.
- St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church, St. Petersburg. Serbian Orthodox tradition, with a strong cultural community.
These are all faithful Orthodox parishes serving the same Eucharist in different liturgical traditions. For St. Petersburg residents specifically wanting a Ukrainian Orthodox parish or a bilingual English and Ukrainian Liturgy, St. Michael is your nearest option, about 25 minutes north.
Sacraments for St. Petersburg Families
St. Petersburg families come to St. Michael for baptism, weddings, and memorial services when they want the Ukrainian Orthodox tradition specifically, or when they want a bilingual ceremony so that English-speaking and Ukrainian-speaking relatives can both pray comfortably. Each Sacrament can be served in English, Ukrainian, or bilingually based on family preference.
For weddings, please contact Fr. Stephen at least six months in advance. For baptisms, reach out as soon as you decide to baptize your child or yourself. For memorial services and funerals, contact us as soon as possible after a death so we can help you plan and prepare.
The Ukrainian Community in St. Petersburg
St. Petersburg’s Ukrainian community has grown considerably since 2022. Families have settled in the Old Northeast, Kenwood, the neighborhoods around 4th Street North, and the more affordable corners of the western city. Our parish has welcomed many of these families and is glad to be a resource for newcomers, both spiritually and practically.
