Orthodox Church Serving New Port Richey, FL

Orthodox Church Serving New Port Richey, FL

New Port Richey is a Gulf coast city in southern Pasco County, with a population of about 18,000, a charming historic downtown along the Cotee River, and a population mix that includes many retirees and families relocating from northern states. If you live in New Port Richey and are looking for an Orthodox church, St. Michael Ukrainian Orthodox Church is 20 miles south of you in Pinellas Park, and we are the closest Orthodox parish in any tradition for most New Port Richey residents.

New Port Richey itself does not have an Orthodox parish. The faithful and the inquiring travel either south to our parish, southeast to Tampa-area parishes, or to one of the closer northern Pinellas options like Holy Trinity Greek in Clearwater (about 18 miles south). We are the only Ukrainian Orthodox option within reasonable driving distance.

Drive Time and Route from New Port Richey

From downtown New Port Richey (near Sims Park and Main Street), the drive to St. Michael is about 35 to 40 minutes. The most direct route:

  • Head south on US 19 from New Port Richey
  • Continue south through Holiday, Tarpon Springs, Palm Harbor, and Clearwater
  • Pass Westfield Countryside and continue south through Largo
  • Exit east on Park Boulevard in Pinellas Park
  • Turn north on 49th Street
  • Turn east on 102nd Avenue
  • Arrive at 9201 60th St

US 19 south is a reliable Sunday morning route with light traffic. No tolls. The drive is straight and easy. Free parking on-site at the parish.

If you are in eastern New Port Richey or near Trinity, you can also take SR 54 east to the Suncoast Parkway / Veterans Expressway and head south, but US 19 is generally simpler.

Why New Port Richey Residents Make the Drive

For New Port Richey residents, any Orthodox parish requires a drive. There is simply no closer option. The question becomes which parish home is worth the trip, and St. Michael answers that for several types of families.

Ukrainian Orthodox tradition. New Port Richey’s Ukrainian-American community has grown noticeably since 2022, with families arriving through Uniting for Ukraine and others relocating from northern states with established Ukrainian communities. Our parish offers the Ukrainian Orthodox tradition that these families came looking for, with bilingual Sunday Divine Liturgy in English and Ukrainian.

Bilingual liturgical experience. New Port Richey families with mixed cultural backgrounds, Ukrainian grandparents, or international children find our bilingual liturgy a natural home. Children hear both languages alongside each other, with no pressure to choose.

Convert pathway with English-language welcome. New Port Richey has its share of Americans drawn to Orthodox Christianity, often through reading and online discovery. Our parish offers a welcoming entry point with English-language services, first visit guide, and personal pastoral attention from Fr. Stephen.

A welcoming small-parish feel. New Port Richey is a city where residents value community and continuity. Our parish offers that. We are not a tourist cathedral or a mega-parish. We are a working community where Fr. Stephen knows your name within a few visits.

Other Orthodox Options Worth Mentioning

For New Port Richey residents who want to consider their full set of options:

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Clearwater. About 22 miles south. Greek Orthodox tradition, established parish, growing convert membership, strong music ministry. The closest substantial Orthodox parish to New Port Richey after our parish.

St. Catherine Russian Orthodox Mission, Clearwater. About 22 miles south. ROCOR tradition, smaller mission community.

St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Tarpon Springs. About 12 miles south. Famous for the annual Epiphany Day diving for the cross. Greek tradition, with significant tourist visitation but a real parish life.

St. Stephen the Great Romanian Orthodox Mission, Clearwater. Romanian tradition.

Our parish, St. Michael Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Pinellas Park. Ukrainian Orthodox, bilingual.

For Greek Orthodox preference, Holy Trinity Clearwater or St. Nicholas Tarpon Springs are good options and closer than us. For Ukrainian Orthodox or bilingual preference, St. Michael is the closest.
