Orthodox Church Serving Palm Harbor, FL
Orthodox Church Serving Palm Harbor, FL
Palm Harbor is one of the most distinctive communities in northern Pinellas County. About 62,000 residents, a strong sense of place, and a network of historic neighborhoods, golf clubs (including Innisbrook), and access to the Pinellas Trail. If you live in Palm Harbor and are looking for an Orthodox church, St. Michael Ukrainian Orthodox Church is 18 miles south in Pinellas Park, and the trip is straightforward via US 19.
Palm Harbor itself does not have an Orthodox parish. Most residents who attend Orthodox services travel either south to Clearwater or further south to Pinellas Park or St. Petersburg. We are the southernmost option for those wanting a Ukrainian Orthodox parish, and we are the closest parish offering regular bilingual Divine Liturgy in English and Ukrainian.
Drive Time and Route from Palm Harbor
From downtown Palm Harbor (near US 19 and Tampa Road), the drive to St. Michael is about 30 minutes. From the Innisbrook resort area, it is closer to 35 minutes. The most direct route:
- Head south on US 19 through Tarpon Springs’s southern edge and Clearwater
- Continue south on US 19 past Park Avenue and the Westfield Countryside area
- Pass through Largo, staying on US 19
- Exit east on Park Boulevard in Pinellas Park
- Turn north on 49th Street
- Turn east on 102nd Avenue
- Arrive at 9201 60th St
There are no tolls on this route. Sunday morning traffic on US 19 south is generally light, so 30 minutes is a reasonable plan. Free parking on-site at the parish.
Why Palm Harbor Residents Travel to St. Michael
Palm Harbor residents who make the trip to St. Michael typically do so for one of three reasons:
Ukrainian Orthodox tradition. If your family heritage is Ukrainian, or if your spiritual journey has drawn you to the Ukrainian Orthodox tradition specifically, our parish is the closest UOC of the USA option in Tampa Bay. The next nearest is Holy Protection in Dover, which is about 35 miles southeast and serves the eastern Bay area.
Bilingual liturgical home. Palm Harbor’s Ukrainian community has grown significantly since 2022, and many families want a parish where their children can hear the prayers in their grandmother’s language alongside the English they speak in school. Our Sunday Divine Liturgy serves both. Cantors lead bilingual hymns. Sermons are in English. Parish announcements are in both languages.
Conversion to Orthodoxy. Palm Harbor has its share of Americans exploring Orthodoxy, particularly through reading the Church Fathers, listening to podcasts, and watching the substantive YouTube content that has driven the broader convert wave. If you are inquiring about the faith, our parish offers a welcoming pathway. Read our first visit guide and our becoming Orthodox page, then come on a Sunday.
Other Orthodox Options Near Palm Harbor
Palm Harbor residents have several Orthodox options to consider, and we want you to find the right one:
Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Clearwater. About 10 miles south of Palm Harbor. Greek Orthodox, growing rapidly, very active parish life. The closest substantial Orthodox parish to Palm Harbor.
St. Catherine Russian Orthodox Mission, Clearwater. About 10 miles south. ROCOR, smaller mission community.
St. Stephen the Great Romanian Orthodox Mission, Clearwater. Romanian Orthodox tradition. About 10 miles south.
St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Tarpon Springs. About 5 miles north of Palm Harbor. Famous for the Epiphany Day diving for the cross. Greek tradition, tourist-prominent but a real parish.
Our parish, St. Michael Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Pinellas Park. Eighteen miles south. Ukrainian Orthodox, bilingual.
If Greek Orthodox tradition speaks to you, Holy Trinity Clearwater or St. Nicholas Tarpon Springs are both excellent. If you want Ukrainian Orthodox specifically, or a bilingual liturgical experience, St. Michael is the parish for you. The drive is worth making, especially when you find a parish home that fits your family.
Ukrainian Community in Palm Harbor
Palm Harbor’s Ukrainian-American community has grown considerably since 2022. Several families have arrived through the Uniting for Ukraine program and settled in the Palm Harbor and Tarpon Springs area. Our parish welcomes these families and helps connect them to practical resources, language support, and the broader Tampa Bay Ukrainian community. Our help for Ukrainian newcomers page is a starting point for families navigating their first months in the United States.
Sacraments for Palm Harbor Families
Palm Harbor families have approached St. Michael for:
- Baptism and chrismation, particularly for newborn children of Ukrainian-American couples
- Orthodox weddings, including Ukrainian-American interfaith couples wanting an Orthodox crowning ceremony
- Memorial services and funerals, with full Orthodox burial rites and panakhyda services
All sacraments can be celebrated in English, Ukrainian, or bilingually depending on your family. Contact Fr. Stephen well in advance for any of these.
